Process and Analytics Engineer

Vesuvius is a world leader in the design, engineering, manufacture and delivery of refractory products, systems and services for high-technology industrial applications: Refractories and systems used to control, regulate and protect the flow of steel in the continuous casting process: Alumina graphite isostatically-pressed tubes, nozzles and stoppers, Slide-gate and tube-changer systems and plates, Gas-purging plugs and temperature control devices. Ceramics and chemicals for the foundry industry, such as crucibles,such as filters, feeding systems, coatings, binders, crucibles, stoppers and refractory linings. Fused-silica refractories for flat glass manufacture and the melting of polycristalline silicon. Refractory linings for high-temperature, heavy-duty industrial applications. With the integration of Foseco in April 2008, Vesuvius is now present in 30 countries on 5 continents, with 80 manufacturing units, 7 R&D centres and numerous sales agencies, together employing over 12,000 people.

Position Overview:

The job holder will participate to the global program for developing big data and analytics solutions for Vesuvius customers’ and own activities. This will include the acquisition and analysis of process data of our customers to develop monitoring and predictive tools for the continuous casting process, amongst other things. This will be done in collaboration with Vesuvius process experts, Vesuvius customers and external analytics partners.

The main responsibilities for this job are:

– Data collection and preparation

– Data interpretation and analysis, including selection and parametrization of algorithms

– Identification of improvement opportunities in process

– Development and implementation of decision support tools and performance monitoring tools based on statistical models

– Project management with partners

– Communicate and present research internally and externally

– Training and coaching of customers and colleagues


The candidate will work under the direction of the R & D Automation and Digital Services Manager.

Knowledge, experience and skills needed: 

– Engineering or Science degree (Master or equivalent)

– 3 years of industrial experience

– Experience working in continuous improvement projects in industrial/manufacturing context (ideally steel industry) – knowledge of process-related standards

– Statistics, big data and advanced analytics past experience is a plus

– PLC and calculator programming (C/C++, python …) knowledge is a plus

– Strong interpersonal and communication skills

– Project management

– Team spirit and drive

- Travelling time : 25 to 50 % (intercontinental travel)

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, French a plus
