Flight Operations Dispatch Supervisor

Purpose of the job:

To assist the Flight Operations Director with the supervision of Flight Planning & tracking as well as Performances and Crew Support on an H24/365 basis.

Main activities and responsabilities

Department/People Management:

• Assist the Flight Operations Postholder in the organisation, administration, and control of the Flight Operations Dispatch and in maintaining the highest standards commensurate with the operation under the terms of the company’s AOC;
• Be responsible for the coordination of published flights ensuring correct operation complement and compliance with regulatory, industrial and company requirements;
• Lead, motivate and empower Flight Operations Dispatch staff through effective and open communication, excellent leadership, regular performance feedback and teambuilding, in order to maximise business results, employee satisfaction and team productivity;
• Assist the Flight Operations Postholder in audit processes, quality service (system and survey), detecting problems and finding solutions;
• Effectively analyse human, subcontracted and facilities/equipment resources to meet internal and external service levels at all times;
• Ensure that the FODO provides for each flight the most optimised and safe Operational Flight Plan and Air Traffic Service flight plan in order to assist the company in running and maintaining its flight program in accordance with Air Network schedules and regulations in force.

Daily flight operations operational:
• Be responsible for the planning and delivery of Air Belgium’s flying operations;
• Be responsible for the economical analysis and safe planning of all types of flights operated by Air Belgium within the seasonal planned punctual timeframe;
• Ensure the completion of an analysis that addresses relevant operational factors prior to operating over any new route or into any new airport.

Daily crewing:
• Monitor actual crewing follow up performance in terms of legality and productivity and, where necessary, take corrective actions to ensure the realisation of the company objectives.
• Supervise the crew report follow up in order to meet legal requirements.

Daily flight watch:
• The primary areas of responsibility are Air Planning and Control, Navigation Services and Aircraft Movement Control;
• Ensure that divisional, field and network management are constantly aware of Air Network Management by exception. Ensure that escalation procedures and contingency planning is in place and affected as necessary in order to demonstrate absolute control of Air Network Operations and performance;
• Be responsible for the proactive assessment of available resources during disruption, and the implementation of cost effective, legal recovery plans in accordance with regulatory and company policies.

Rostering duties:
• Ensure - in cooperation with the Crew Planning Manager - that the  crew rosters are published in due time in order to ensure that the company’s flight programme is covered, taking into account all BCAA regulations and company policies;
• Ensure - in cooperation with the Flight Operations Administrative Support Department - that all training activities are efficiently built into the roster;
• Supervise the crew report follow up in order to meet legal requirements.


• Ensure the highest possible degree of safety, security, economy and punctuality in accordance with the provision of the various applicable regulations for all flight operations;
• Analyses crew’s reports and ASR assigned to their functional area and submit corrective actions to the Flight Operations Postholder.

Requirements and qualifications

  • Previous experience in the same type of duty is an asset (AOC, Documentation, EFB system, Crew Training, Flight Operations…)
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of operational experience in aviation, 
  • Strong organisational & communication skills
  • Team-building & leadership skills, Diplomatic sense and “qualitative” mind.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Stress resistant.
  • Rapid decision making.
  • High standard of self-motivation to meet targets and time-scales.
  • Fluent in French /English (both written and spoken).
  • Ability to communicate both written and verbal at all levels.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages is essential; accurate and proficient keyboard skills.
  • Ability to organize own work, and other related office issues; work on own initiative, self-starter (anticipating requirements for meetings).
  • Assertive, tactful / confidential; shorthand essential; good organizer.
