The role:

Numerical Modelling Specialist in one or more of the following:

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Computational Particulate Flow Modelling
  • Metallurgical process flow modelling

Job description:
 
The computational modelling specialist is part of the Computational Simulation Resource Team. Team members work in project teams, in collaboration with production, maintenance, and technical sales on industrial R&D problems. Team members are exposed to all elements of steel making in our vertically integrated company, from mineral processing to ironmaking to steelmaking, rolling, and galvanizing. Team composition is adjusted to project needs and scope and team members experience many different part of the steelmaking and product and process development. For the current role the focus is on metallurgical process engineering, CFD and optionally DEM.

Requirements and Education

  • Must hold a PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, or related field.
  • At least working professional level English
  • Knowledge of and/or interest in advanced steel research
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%, depending on project requirements (job based in La Louvière - 50 km south of Brussels)
  • Willingness to co-author and present industrial scientific work
Soft skills:
  • Open minded team player

Nice to have:

  • Experience in programming (C++, Fortran, shell, …)
  • Modelling of welding is a plus
  • Experience in statistics, data processing, and data visualization (Matlab, R, Statistica, Gnuplot etc.)
  • Experience in Version Control (preferably Git)
  • Experience with CAD and mesh generation
  • Additional languages are a plus, in particular French and/or Russian
  • Project management skills, especially Agile methods (KanBan, Scrum, DevOps, etc.)
  • A combination of the desired backgrounds, e.g. CFD-FEM or CFD-DEM
  • Contribution to and/or use of open source projects
